Series #35: Signs of a Failed Security and Safety Lecture

Today, we witness numerous lectures on security, safety precautions, self-development, and many other important issues. Sadly, these lectures are often designed for young minds, especially children and youths, yet it is mostly elderly fathers and mothers who attend them. This is because they value orientation and reorientation programmes, having grown up with such discipline and awareness.

The venues are often filled to capacity with people from different walks of life, even though the actual target audience is absent. While it is commendable that great minds still attend, the painful reality remains that many of these programmes lose focus when the people most affected by the issues being discussed are nowhere to be found.

This is one of the major challenges seminars, trainings, and workshops face today. Extensive research is carried out to address societal problems, yet those who truly need the knowledge often do not value such opportunities.

Programmes designed for youths are now mostly attended by retirees and elderly individuals who may no longer be the direct targets of the message.

Many organisers of educative and informative events see nothing wrong with having a large audience, even when the attendees are not those the programme was originally intended for.

To make these programmes more effective, individuals, corporate bodies, and communities should cultivate the habit of passing the vital lessons learned to their children and younger generations. Children returning home from school during holidays should be gathered and properly educated on the important messages shared at such events.

At times, lectures and seminars address issues that concern spouses and family life. Those who attend such programmes should make time to explain the lessons in detail to their partners and family members.

Community leaders who make sacrifices to attend seminars should also take extra steps to educate those they represent at home, for the betterment of society.

A secure-minded person does not only attend lectures but also takes time to explain the valuable lessons to those who need them most.

Just be good. Reflect. Stay alert.
