International Firefighters Day : Ogun Salutes Fighters Bravery , Honour Retirees


In honour of courage, sacrifice and dedication of men and women in the fire fighter service who stood in the front-line of danger to protect lives and property of its citizens, the Ogun State Fire and Safety Services has joined the global community to commemorate the 2026 World Firefighters' Day.

The celebration which took place in Abeokuta, themed: ‘Honoring Bravery, Commitment and Sacrifices of the firefighters’ with various lined up activities which included, an endurance trek, enlightenment on Safety tips in schools, garages and markets within Abeokuta metropolis, as well as honoring retired officers to appreciate their unwavering commitment towards protection of lives, public asset and private property across the State.

          Speaking at the event, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Mrs. Funmi Soyoye-Baker, said that the retired officers were worthy ambassadors who served diligently and helped built the institution of which the State could be proud of today.

Mrs. Soyoye-Baker reaffirmed that the Ministry would not relent in the operational capacity of the Service, through improved service delivery, enhanced emergency response mechanisms and sustained public enlightenment on fire prevention and safety across all Local Government Areas.

"As  the global communities commemorate firefighters day, we join millions across the world in paying glowing tribute to brave men and women whose professional callings placed them daily in harm's way for the preservation of lives and property,’’ she said.
On his part, the State Director in-charge of the Fire Services, Engr. Fatai Adefala noted that this year's edition was marked in remembrance of the fallen heroes in the line of duty and to honor retired personnel who risked their lives to protect lives and property across the State.

Responding on behalf of retirees, Mr. Adeboye Odukoya, applauded the agency for the honor bestowed on them, imploring serving officers to keep the flag flying with renewed dedication.

 Among the retirees present were Mr. Adeboye Odukoya, Mrs. Lamina Ogendegbe, Mr. Olagesin Mutiu, Mrs. Susanna Akintayo and Mrs. Simisola Oluwatoyin.
