Ogun Unveils Military Sports Complex To Strenghten Bonding Among Families, Communities

The Ogun State Government has divulged a military sports complex and other people-centered legacy projects to help servicemen maintain peak physical condition, enhance camaraderie, relieve stress and nurture talents.

The Governor of the State, Prince Dapo Abiodun made this known, at the commissioning of legacy projects executed by Brigadier General G.U. Nwamba, Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala Barracks, Abeokuta, noting that the new Multi-Purpose Sports Complex is more than a ribbon-cutting, a deliberate investment in the people who serve.

Represented by the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon Wasiu Isiaka, the Governor submitted that beyond recreation and economic opportunity, the facility is designed to promote physical fitness, social interaction, family bonding and economic empowerment for officers, soldiers, their spouses and children, saying it would create a stronger sense of belonging to families in and around the barracks.    He explained that sports remained one of the most powerful tools for building character, noting that the complex would be used to foster discipline, teamwork, leadership and resilience.

The Governor said sports breaks down barriers and brings people together, whether they are in uniform or not, while also creating a platform for talent discovery and personal development, giving young soldiers and civilians alike a chance to grow skills that last beyond the parade ground.

"This launch fits into a bigger picture in Ogun State. Under the current administration, the State has seen unprecedented growth in sports development, with world-class infrastructure, an enabling policy environment, strategic investments and private sector partnerships, thus, positioning itself as one of Nigeria’s foremost sporting destinations,’’ he said.

Governor Abiodun, while appreciating Brigadier General G.U. Nwamba, maintained that through these projects and numerous other initiatives, effective leadership would not be measured only by operational accomplishments but, also by the positive impact made on the lives of people entrusted to one's care.

He applauded his commitment to improving the living conditions within the Alamala Barracks by promoting sporting excellence, encouragement of economic empowerment and enhancing family welfare which had reflected a leadership style anchored on compassion, vision and service.
