The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is facing mounting pressure following its failure to announce the official results of its nationwide primary elections conducted last week ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The primaries, held across the country on May 28 and 29, were organized to select the party’s candidates for various elective positions. At the conclusion of the exercise, the party convened a meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC) to review the conduct of the primaries and address related issues.
However, the delay in releasing the results has fueled widespread speculation among party members, aspirants, and supporters regarding the outcome of the exercise.
In response to growing rumors, the NDC on Sunday disowned several purported primary election results circulating on social media, describing them as unofficial and misleading.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC urged the public to disregard any results being shared online, insisting that only the NEC has the authority to release the official outcome of the primaries.
“The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on the 28th and 29th of May, 2026,” the statement read.
“The results of the primaries are with the National Executive Council (NEC) of our great party. They are solely responsible for the announcement of results,” Director added.
The party further assured stakeholders that the final list of candidates would be published after the completion of internal ratification procedures and before submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Despite these assurances, uncertainty continues to overshadow the party’s post-primary process, with many constituencies and districts still awaiting official confirmation of successful candidates. Political observers say the prolonged delay could heighten tensions within the party as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum
