Series #36: Security Agents Must Protect Themselves to Succeed in Protecting Others

We stand at a critical junction, having failed to play our roles as responsible citizens and community leaders in strengthening our security architecture at all levels. This is not because we lack awareness, but because we often forget that we depend on professionals to rescue us from the growing insecurity surrounding us.

A security agent’s mind is constantly occupied with calculating, strategizing, reviewing, upgrading, and abandoning outdated systems that no longer serve the purpose of tackling security challenges effectively.

Security personnel are entrusted with the responsibility of protecting lives and property. However, failure to be fully prepared and adequately protected in every aspect of the job exposes them to danger. Once security agents become vulnerable, the entire security chain weakens, leaving the people exposed to attacks.

Only a well-protected security agent can carry out assigned duties diligently and effectively.

Beyond security agents protecting themselves, those of us who support them by providing useful security information and helping to trace crime to its roots must also understand this important reality.

The dead cannot contribute to security; only the living can. I strongly believe that the best approach to ensuring public safety is to first secure one’s own safety. Once that is guaranteed, we can then use our sound health, strength, and expertise to defend others and protect our nation.

Security-conscious individuals always strive to ensure their own safety before taking any risk involved in defending others.

Just be good. Reflect. Stay alert.
