Series #41 : Know Your Workers, Housemaids and All Domestic Staff and Stay Vigilant
Workers, housemaids, and domestic staff can sometimes be unpredictable. We employ workers, assistants, and helping hands at home, in workplaces, and in other establishments, including religious or spiritual settings, primarily to ease our burdens and to enhance a sense of safety, comfort, and productivity in our daily lives.
Unfortunately, in today’s world, some of these individuals we bring into our homes or close environments end up betraying trust or, in extreme cases, engaging in harmful activities against their employers.
We must remain observant at all times. Many times, we employ domestic staff to help us cope with loneliness, depression, health challenges, busy schedules, or work overload. However, instead of properly screening them, we often accept them based on trust alone, without thoroughly investigating their background and character before engaging their services.
On several occasions, domestic workers have been linked to theft, poisoning, and even health complications such as stress-related illnesses, high blood pressure, and other serious conditions affecting their employers.
Personnel awareness is essential for safe living. Where possible, experts should be engaged to screen and verify prospective domestic staff, including gardeners, cooks, housemaids, drivers, nannies, security guards, personal assistants, and anyone who works closely within our personal or professional spaces. However, even after employment, vigilance should not be completely relaxed, as human behavior can change over time.
It is important to learn from the experiences of others who have employed domestic staff in the past. In some cases, what was expected to bring relief and comfort eventually turned into regret due to negative experiences with individuals who were initially trusted.
A security-minded person does not simply employ domestic staff but ensures that proper screening and verification are carried out. This helps ensure that they serve only the purpose for which they were hired.
