The Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), Mr. Jola Oyeneye, made this known at a day retreat organised by the Bureau, for staff and change agents across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA's) of government with the theme: ‘Repositioning the Public Service through Innovation Centred Strategies’ in Abeokuta.
Mr. Oyeneye, in his opening remarks said public servants needed to rise, jointly promote and contribute their quota in the discharge of their duties noting that, public service was a set of system put in place to accomplish the programmes and aspirations of good governance.
"The Bureau of Public Service Reforms was set up to ignite change within the system and serve as engine of institutional renewal," he said.
While stressing the core roles of change agents in public service, the Permanent Secretary, advised them to be a catalyst of innovation, work in line with modern technologies and translate reform policies into actions, while enjoining them to promote ethical conduct, keep records and champion transparency in their dealings.
Also, the Chief Executive Officer, Africa Tech Hub Limited, Engineer Sean Badru, in his presentation titled, ‘Strengthening Public Service Delivery Through Digital Innovation and Emerging Technologies’, said the knowledge of digital tools was necessary in public service as government needs to be accountable, resilient and accurate in their daily activities.
Engr. Badru, said the need to move from paper dependent administration to a traceable and data driven operation became germane, adding that the biggest risk of cyber security was human behavior, while he indicated that a wrong click, careless shared password could expose the entire system.
He admonished them to have a safe and sovereign digital practice and then, practicalised the online method of document management, as well as digital filling.
Responding on behalf of the change agents, Mrs. Saidat Olusi, from the Bureau of Establishments and Training, appreciated the organisers of the programme, assuring that the knowledge acquired from the lecture would be applied in their agency's daily operations and shared with other colleagues to benefit.
